Easter

This year, we decided that Laken was old enough to actually do the Easter thing: color eggs, get an Easter basket, and have an egg-hunt. So that's what we did!

Saturday night we dyed Easter eggs. We only boiled about 8 eggs for Laken to dye. We pulled out his table into the kitchen and put the dyes around the edge of the table. We showed him how to put an egg into the dye, and he immediately did the next egg, putting it into the same dye as the 1st. So we had to show him there were other colors. And before you knew it, all the eggs were colored. He'd put an egg into one color, take it out, put it in another color, etc. So the eggs were all different colors. And since he used his hands, he dyed those too. It was fun watching him and he was very proud of his eggs.

Sunday morning, we put Laken in his room for a few minutes so we could hide the hard-boiled eggs around the living room. Then he came out and, after having help, found all the eggs and put them back into the carton. He also got his Easter basket and had more fun pulling out all the fake grass and throwing it around the living room.

After church, we did another easter egg hunt, but this time it was outside. We hid some plastic eggs filled with candy around our yard and let him find those. Once again, he needed a little help knowing which direction to look to find the eggs. He'd find one, pick it up, open it to get the candy, then go find another. When he found a 2nd egg, he'd put the 1st one down. So I had to follow him around with his basket to teach him to put the eggs in there.

And, of course, what would Easter be without ducks wandering into your yard and being chased by a 2-year old?

I think Laken had a good Easter. He certainly got spoiled with hunting eggs and eating lots of candy, but it only comes around once a year. We had fun watching him and are glad he's old enough to start participating in these holidays.
