We decided to take the trip (about 1400 miles/ 21ish driving hours) in 2 1/2 days. My dad was able to come out to help with the driving (thankfully!). We left Thursday (the 27th) at about 9:30 am. It took us a little longer than anticipated to get up and going. Then we had to get gas (of course). But once we were on the road, things went well. We decided to go South towards Salt Lake so we could at least visit Andrew before moving too far away. Unfortunately Steven had class and wasn't able to come. We stopped for lunch then headed back in the car. It rained on and off for most of the drive that day. In the evening, it turned into snow. We drove until we got to Cheyenne, WY where we got a hotel for the night. We got there around 10:30pm. We let the kids play around for a while to get some energy out before getting them ready for bed.
The next day we left around 10am and drove until lunch time again before getting out of the car. We stopped at a Perkins for lunch. While we were waiting for our food, Carter tipped in his chair and hit his forehead on a different chair. Poor boy had a huge dent in his head and cried for a long time before we were able to get him to settle down. After some medicine, ice, and a priesthood blessing, he was ok. My dad and Jared switched which vehicles they drove then we continued on the drive until we got to Missouri Valley around 9pm. Once again the kids did fairly well in the car until about an hour or so before stopping for the night. We got some Burger King for dinner and played for a bit before bed again. That night was rough for Laken. He was restless from about 2-5 and then threw up. So neither him, I or my dad got much sleep.
The last leg of our journey was only supposed to be about 3 hours. It took a little longer due to some snow on the ground (and us having to stop to figure out the number of the landlord) but finally we made it to Estherville, Iowa.
